Our normal
lifestyles as we previously knew changed with the onset of COVID-19 and this, universally.
Different people adapt differently and while human beings are not so welcoming
to change, it is sometimes necessary. The positivity we have seen with the
children at our
Juja Farm campus is
remarkable.
Schools in Kenya
were closed late March and this meant studying from home. The young ones
understand the importance of education and how phenomenal it is to their
future. They have been studying on their own and even helping each other with
tough topics in the subjects they cover. They hold study discussions on
weekdays so as to ensure they still remember what they have been taught in
school.
Aside from that,
they are very helpful with house chores in their specific houses. They help
their mothers to clean the rooms, do and fold laundry and simply ensuring that
their houses are clean and orderly. They have also been going through cooking
classes because who doesn’t want to learn making a delicious meal, right?
The older ones have
been useful with outdoor work activities such as farming, offloading the
delivery vehicles and even planting and watering trees. The children appreciate
the environment and do their best to help take care of it and ensure its
conducive for their stay.
With so much time on their hands, the girls have also been
teaching themselves to plait each other’s hair which is definitely a fun sport
for them. In the evening, they have daily exercises which help them keep fit.
Generally, the children are lucky to have each other’s
company and the older ones help out the younger ones with tasks. This is such a
good way for them to bond with each other.
Their love for each other is so
evident and such an encouragement in the face of such tough times.
